I can obtain Italian citizenship because my wife is Italian. Upon reflection, I spiked the idea: it's a rough obstacle course.

If David Hicks faces similar hurdles from the UK legislation, he'll be away in 'The Bay ' for a while yet...

The Italians require:

[] A valid passport (I suppose Hicksie doesn't have an Australian passport handy?!),

[] birth certificate, marriage certificate, PENAL CERTIFICATE declaring the existence or otherwise of any outstanding criminal proceedings in all countries in which the applicant has lived since age 14 (that should be a tough one for young David...),

[] certificate of the citizenship of the spouse (mother),

[] certificate of residency (Guantanamo?), and so on.

Birdman had more of a chance, I'd say...
