It never rains but it pours
We've just lived through the driest month on record, with temperatures in the high 30Cs. Many of our fruit trees, ornamental trees - and of course the native flora around the house - started dying, inexorably.
Yesterday started the new month with a faint drizzle that kept going, and growing, by the hour. At night we had massive downpours, accompanied by a persistent thunderstorm.
When I checked our rain gauges this morning, one had overflowed, the other showed 118 mm, even after I spilled a little taking it out of its holder.
As they say (see title)...
And I am astonished to see how quickly the trees around us are starting to recover!
And another thing: the downpours were so massive that the baby possum that usually traipses across our roof and then jumps into the expiring lime tree to climb down and get some grains from the loosely closed chicken feeder just kept trampling across the roof most of the early night before calling it quits. Without partaking of the chickenfeed...
