Our not so aptly named Liberal Senator from Western Australia (Senator Stumblebum would be more appropriate, given his latest footwork) is but the latest addition to a team of Coalition figures that have gone out of their way to make their party look silly, vain, greedy, untruthful - tick as appropriate - in the eyes of the electorate.
I wouldn't be surprised if the soi-disant Independent in the Sydney seat of Werriwa benefitted from the current spectacle, which follows the equally distasteful episode involving Independent Tony Windsor.
Senator Ross's fancy footwork over the past few days will not have fooled anybody; and the lighthearted recognition of "Kurdistan" in his press release may yet come to haunt his colleagues in DFAT.
In the meantime, a word of advice to the Senator: he should take some lessons in 'lightfooting' from the Deputy Premier, who has given such a polished demonstration in the Tamworth 'bribe' affair recently. Senator Anderson could even teach our beloved PM a step or two...
But then, I think John Howard is beyond such banalities: he no longer really cares about a silly electorate that buys anything he dangles in front of them before a poll - he grins, and we bear it!
Lest anyone think that only the Libs and Nats could give seminars in 'Lightfooting 101', the good Senator might also consider seeking instruction from his fellow WA pollie, charming Carmen "Lyrebird" Laurence...
Ah well, 't was ever such!
