Hanged for the wrong crime ?

Always eager to delve behind the bland reporting of our press - now perhaps subject to D-Notices? - I looked up hydrogen chloride in the free online encyclopedia, Wikipedia.

Surprise, surprise: "Hydrochloric acid is listed as a Table II precursor under the 1988 Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances because of its use in the production of heroin and cocaine [1]." (I also tried to look up Table II, but for some reason the list of precursor chemicals was 'not found on the server'.)

Have our intelligence (sic) services perhaps pre-empted a DEA strike against a budding drug ring with their recent arrests of terror suspects in Melbourne and Sydney? We'll likely never know...

Cheers!
