Googlehupf - two-step security taken ad absurdum...

Bianca got her chosen $139 LG K4 Titan at our Telstra shop yesterday and was quite pleased with it. So was I, seeing it was so much better at what it does with its little quad-core processor. and it was a handier size than my new Nokia TA-1093!

The sales person explained the basics of the mobile to Bianca, put in and registered the new Telstra SIM - and threw away the SIM she'd had in the old Garmin-Asus Nuviphone she'd inherited from me years ago.

When she played with the phone later at home, Google threw up a "Critical Security Warning" regarding the new mobile. Would she please enable two-step security. And prove that she was entitled to access Gmail from THAT device?

No worries - but Google only had her previous Internode e-mail address on file! There was no way this could be changed, so there was no way she could prove her identity...

A serious shortcoming of the two-step method! Why don't they just look at her secret questions and answers they must have on file? Because there's no trouble accessing Gmail on her Chromebook...

But getting IT to accept the new mobile as a legit user was equally impossible.

So I told the mobile to ignore security warnings in future...

And, for good measure, today I barred Google Play, Play Store and Google Notifications, with all their tracking trickery, from accessing Bianca's new mobile. So there, G.!

Cheers,
