What day is it today, Bianca asked yesterday as I was idling away on the PC, so I could promptly answer her: it is the 11th of September!
What I did NOT remember is that on that day, 55 years ago, I married my beautiful wife on Godesburg Castle near Bonn in the Rhineland... nor did she remind me.
She also failed to remind me that I had had my TWO drinks for the day already (Liz Richardson's beautiful Pinot Grigio 2018) because that would have spoilt her own surprise for me...
I had barely asked 'what's for dinner' when it all became clear: Bianca broke out a bottle of Brian Fletcher's Bolle d'Amore Prosecco Treviso - bottle number 006527 in case Brian chances to read this - and dished up the most amazing potato salad with aiolli enveloping the most varied pre-cooked crudites to be washed down with the prosecco!
We finished the bottle of course, only 6.2 standard drinks after all, but added to the two glasses of Pinot Grigio and the little pouring of Barbadillo sherry I had had in the afternoon I managed to consume around 6 standard drinks during that memorable afternoon...
In between pourings we plucked out memories of the wedding day, and subsequent memorable events, until I plummeted into bed at 7:30 and promptly fell asleep.
Bianca instead lasted till about 9 p.m., reading and knitting, before she joined me...
So, today is a no-alcohol day for me - but there's both a bottle of Jacob's Creek 2017 and a bottle of 2018 Clare Valley South Australian Riesling waiting to be chosen for when we return from our weekly shopping tip to Forster tomorrow afternoon!
Salute a voi!
