... they ARE coming back, if ever so slowly.
My recent memory loss was massive and disorienting for this otherwise healthy 83-year-old.
And it was brought on by a cataract operation in a country hospital, by a competent specialist who had already performed the same op on my right eye.
He called me back to his Taree practice about a month after the May operation - and I had completely forgotten about THAT op! I thought he was just checking on the performance of the lens inserted the year before LOL.
When he told me I just had had the second operation - on the left eye - I was totally flabbergasted. I have since recovered somewhat, and my head is usually quite normal, I think.
The annoying thing, however, is that Bianca treats me as if she has to instruct me about every step I'm about to take, as if I were really non compos mentis. Ah well, I just remind her that we both are forgetting things, and it is a usual concomitant of a condition called old age...
My ESP, on the other hand, is dishing up deja vues and deja entendus en masse every day, thank you!
What I SHOULD record for research/gossip purposes is that I had a SPLIT deja vu the other day:
at the Post Office, there was this old woman sending parcels back to Amazon for reasons that she explained loudly to all and sundry - o.k. I had seen/heard that one at the same place bore (said my damaged brain function, according to Bianca).
But what was totally NEW in that scene was a lissome young woman, with a tiny parcel or two, that I obligingly let pass ahead of me before presenting my card to collect a dozen wines - now she was new, and I had to force myself NOT to look at her well-formed behind and other fetching attributes...
How's that for a split personality?
